Hats Plus adds a new type of accessory, presumably for those who choose style over protection. At normal times any reasonable person would choose to wear a helmet in Minecraft, but that's no ordinary times we're facing. Death doesn't matter so much when you can just find your grave and recollect your items. Besides, you'll still receive two armor points for wearing any hat, just like if you were wearing an iron helmet.
